Rachel McCann – B.Teach, B.Ed (Hons), M.Ed (Special Ed)
Bloomsmath began in 2002 as a theoretical assignment when Rachel was enrolled in Sydney University’s M. Ed (Special Ed.) program. After presenting her research at 2 differentiated conferences overwhelming teachers requests for her to develop the program into a teaching resource (and a maternity break) saw Bloomsmath the original K-8 programs released in 2004.
Students Talk About Why They LOVE Math and Movement.
Ten years later, having returned to teaching (because she loves it too much) Rachel’s work as a Gifted and Talented and Maths Consultant let her see just how much teaching had changed since Bloomsmath began in 2002 and she set about rewriting the entire program. No longer happy with just a program overview Rachel decided to rewrite each activity idea or game as a full colour worksheet to save teachers time and hopefully ensure more students were getting to enjoy maths.
Bloomsmath took a short hiatus in 2014 though as Rachel spent time writing the Maths and Movement Program. Designed for teachers who are time poor but want the best for their students. It combines the Maths and Pd/Heath/PE Syllabi to create 17 games for each grade so students are physically engaged in their learning not sitting and absorbing it.
Levels 1 and 2 of Bloomsmath for Kindergarten and Year 1 are available here now as are all 7 Levels of the Maths and Movement program.
